JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:                                                            School Bus Driver

 

REQUIREMENTS:

A.    Education Level:                                      High School Diploma. Valid South Dakota CDL with bus endorsement. No record of DUI convictions in past 10 years. 

 

B.    Experience Desired:                               One year bus experience

 

C.    Physical Requirements:                        Must be able to pass DOT mandated physical exam.  Must pass pre-duty and randomly administered drug and alcohol tests.  Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand/arm movements.

 

REPORTS TO:                                                      Transportation Director

 

WORKS WITH:                                                   Transportation Director, Business Manager, Superintendent

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
  2. Maintain safety precautions when students are boarding and departing the bus.
  3. Maintain appropriate student management and report student incidents to the appropriate supervisors.
  4. Follow assigned route and adhere to set schedules.
  5. Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and submit work orders as necessary,
  6. Communicate with department personnel, school personnel and parents about student behavior while on the bus.
  7. Keep assigned bus clean and fueled.
  8. Properly operate all assigned communications equipment.
  9. Report all accidents, vehicle damage and student injuries as they occur.
  10. Complete and submit all required reports and documentation.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

A.    Inside and Outside

 

B.    Climatic Environment – Moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes. 

 

C.    Hazards – Occasionally subjected to mechanical hazards, vibrations, adverse road conditions.

 

D.    Work Year – This position is for a contract year.  Duties of the position are performed between August 1st and May 30th.
